How do you become a Noxious Weed Seed Free Forage (NWSFF) Inspector?
Certification is valid for one growing season. New inspectors need to complete an initial certification training course on Moodle. This course consists of the following topics:
- NWSFF Act and Administrative Rules,
- Field inspection techniques and procedures,
- Map reading and forms used,
- Knowledge of weed management (burning, mowing, cutting or rogueing, mechanical methods, and chemicals)
- State and regional certification standards and guidelines,
- State and regional noxious and poisonous weed identification and training,
- Pass an exam with an 80% or better score.
Inspectors wishing to recertify, will be required to review this handbook and/or exam slides and take a quick recertification quiz on Moodle.
Once an inspector has taken an initial exam or the recertification quiz, they will be sent an NWSFF identification card prior to the growing season. Certified inspectors are considered agents of the Department while working with producers to inspect and certify forage.
Complete the initial certification process by:
- Read and understand the NWSFF Inspector’s Manual,
- Contact the Department to be enrolled in the Moodle Course,
- Pass the NWSFF exam with a score of 80% or better, and
- Be issued an ID number and identification card.
NWSFF Inspectors will be re-certified on an annual basis prior to the growing season. Recertify by:
- Read and understand the NWSFF Inspector's Manual,
- Contact the Department to be enrolled in the Moodle Course,
- Send and email to certifiedforage@mt.gov when complete,
- Be issued a new identification card.
