Montana Noxious Weed Awareness Week 2026

Join us in celebrating Montana’s Noxious Weed Awareness Week (MNWAW). A statewide event held every year during the first full week of June. In 2026, we’ll be celebrating from Sunday, June 7 th, through Saturday, June 13 th.

Montana Noxious Weed Awareness Week was officially established in April 2021, thanks to the leadership of legislators Marilyn Marler and Ken Walsh. Their efforts helped create an annual, statewide opportunity to highlight the impacts of terrestrial noxious weeds on Montana’s landscapes, livelihoods, and natural heritage.

Why This Week Matters

MNWAW exists to raise awareness. Awareness of what noxious weeds are, how they spread, and how they affect Montana’s ecosystems, agriculture, recreation, and communities. By learning to identify, prevent, and report infestations, every Montanan can play a role in protecting the places we love. Throughout the week, we’ll be sharing daily educational topics!

  • Sunday, June 7: Topic - KNoweeds, Weed of the day - oxeye daisy
  • Monday, June 8 th: Topic - Prevention, Weed of the day - rush skeletonweed
  • Tuesday, June 9 th: Topic - Cultural Control, Weed of the day - common buckthorn
  • Wednesday, June 10 thth: Topic - Mechanical Control, Weed of the day - spotted knapweed
  • Thursday, June 11 th: Topic - Biological Control - Weed of the day - whitetop
  • Friday, June 12 th: Topic - Chemical Control - Weed of the day - leafy spurge
  • Saturday, June 13 th: Topic - Reporting Weeds - Weed of the day - blueweed

Resources are designed for everyone. Including county weed districts, extension offices, conservation districts, educators, landowners, families, and community members. You’re encouraged to use, share, and distribute them widely.

Celebrate in Your Own Way

While we’ll provide daily themes and ready‑to‑use materials, MNWAW is truly a celebration for all Montanans. Feel free to participate in whatever way fits your community or lifestyle: host an event, share educational posts, take a weed‑pulling walk, teach a friend or neighbor.

Celebrate your successes, big or small!

And don’t forget to share your celebrations. When you post, talk, or teach about noxious weeds, you help inspire others to get involved and raise awareness as well.

Find Resources

All MNWAW materials can be found on Montana’s kNOweeds website.

Let’s come together to build a united front against noxious weeds, protect Montana’s landscapes, and celebrate the progress we make, one weed at a time.

Get excited, follow along, share widely, and help us spread awareness across Montana!
