AAMT - How To Adopt

How to Adopt

  • hikers on a trailSelect a trailhead of interest. (Federal lands, City trails, State parks)
  • Gain support for the project. Encourage everyone to participate! The more people on board, the more successful the project will be.
  • Contact MDA to design signage
  • Schedule a volunteer weed pull and kiosk installation
  • Groups interested in adopting a trailhead will commit to at least one noxious weed pull event per calendar year at the site you select.

AATM FAQ and Resources

For these weed pulls, we ask that people wear clothes that they don't mind getting dirty, long sleeves, closed toed shoes, and gloves if they have them. During the weed pull volunteers use weed pry tools and gloves.

Make sure to remind volunteers to bring water, sunscreen and to check the weather beforehand.
At each adopted site there is a recognition signage stating the group that has adopted the trail and is responsible for the weed pulls there. We also have a Noxious Weed Facebook page and end of year newsletter where we recognize new and active volunteer groups.
As far as AATM goes we do not have a limit for volunteer group sizes. Something to consider is parking, as the public will also be using the parking lot/trailhead as well. If you are concerned about the size of your group, we can reach out to the land manager for their thoughts as well.
