FSA Hemp Acreage Reporting

FSA Hemp Acreage Reporting

All hemp acreage (or square footage if grown indoors) must be reported to the US Department of Agriculture (USDA) Farm Service Agency (FSA).  The information provided in the links listed below outlines the benefits and requirements of working with your local FSA office. In addition to being a federal requirement of USDA’s Final Rule, the FSA assigned Lot Numbers must be submitted to the Montana Department of Agriculture on the Stage 2 Hemp Planting Report to receive the Hemp Production license.

It is the producer’s responsibility to communicate to FSA the acreage (or square footage), the growing location and hemp crop information (i.e., variety or strain, intended use, etc.) to determine Lot size and Lot Number.  Producers accustomed to working with FSA will recognize the farm-tract-field numbering system.  However, it is important to note that the subfield number will be used to differentiate cultivars of hemp.  Also important, remember to obtain a copy of your FSA maps for submission to the department with your Stage 2 Hemp Planting Report.

Information on the FSA reporting requirement can be found in USDA’s Final Rule at https://www.ams.usda.gov/rules-regulations/hemp or by contacting your county FSA office.

A complete list of Montana local offices can be found at  https://www.fsa.usda.gov/state-offices/Montana/index .
