Produce Licensing

Produce Licensing

A produce dealer license is required for any person who wholesales produce in the state, transports produce from out of state into Montana for retail sales, or retails produce grown by the produce dealer in Montana when gross retail sales exceed $25,000 annually.

A separate license is required for each place of business, including vehicles. When completing the Produce Dealer License Application form please be sure to enter a license plate number or assigned unit number for each business vehicle, (not a VIN).

Licenses are issued annually and expire December 31st each year.  Licenses are to be renewed by January 1st of each year.

Produce inspection fees are assessed semi-annually from distributors for all produce distributed in Montana.

Fees:

  • Annual Dealer License: $50.00 per place of business, including vehicles
  • Semi-Annual Assessment: $0.06 per unit distributed

PDF Produce Assessment forms are available upon request.
