Yes, every section of the Organic System Plan must be completed for organic certification.

Inspection costs include mileage, inspection time, and reporting. The range is estimated at $250 - $1,000 (+/-) per inspection.

1. Read the most recent version of the NOP standards.

2. Submit completed application forms and applicable fees to MTDA (March 15th for producers or September 15th for handlers).

  • MTDA will review your application to determine compliance to the NOP standards and provide an estimate of your certification costs for the year.
  • MTDA will schedule an on-site inspection of your operation.
  • MTDA will conduct a final review of your application and inspection materials to complete the certification process.

Organic certification fees are based on gross organic sales and are as follows:

  • Operations with gross Organic sales of or projected sales of:
    • Less than $20,000: $600
    • $20,001 – 40,000: $700
    • $40,001 – 100,000: $800
    • $100,001 – 250,000: $900
    • $250,001 – 500,000: $1,000
    • $500,001 – 1,000,000: $1,250
    • Greater than $1,000,000: $1,500
