How to Transition to Organic

Continuing with a series of meetings begun last spring, the department's Organic Grower Awareness Campaign shifts to eastern Montana during the coming months. poster on organic awareness meeting

Three information meetings will be held in northeast Montana October 28-30; an Organic School and mentoring session at the Montana Organic Association annual conference Dec. 4-5; and three full day workshops in February 2009.

The activities offer an opportunity for prospective growers to learn from existing organic farmers, grain buyers and specialists about the economics of organic certification, the certification process, yields and transitioning from conventional agriculture as well as best management practices – soil health, rotations, organic systems, wee control and buffer requirements.
