Montana Beef Headed to Florida Food Show
HELENA, Mont. — Montana-raised natural beef will be showcased at the state's booth in the Show Others Healthy Options (SOHO) exposition December 1-2, 2007, in Orlando, Florida.
The Montana Department of Agriculture will take food items from 14 Montana companies to the SOHO show, featuring five items from Montana beef producers. Eric Trager, chef at the Bridge Creek Backcountry Kitchen & Wine Bar in Red Lodge, will prepare beef samples for expo visitors. The exhibit will help introduce naturally raised, hormone-free beef in anticipation of the Montana Certified Natural Beef program enacted by the 2007 Montana Legislature.
The department's Agricultural Marketing and Business Development Bureau uses regional trade shows to test market Montana products, says Angelyn DeYoung, marketing officer. If there is sufficient interest in the products, company representatives can apply under the department's Trade Show Assistance Program for help in obtaining booth space at future shows. Since 2005, the test-marketing program has generated more than $2 million for Montana food and agriculture businesses.
Rules are being drafted for the Montana Certified Natural Beef program.
