Glyphosate Receives Special Local Needs Registration for Preharvest Use in Flax
HELENA, Mont. — The Montana Department of Agriculture has received a special local needs registration to allow the use of RT Master herbicide as a pre-harvest aid to control weeds in flax.
Monsanto Co., which registers RT Master and other glyphosate herbicides, has issued Section 24(c) labels for the use, which are available on the Montana Department of Agriculture website and through area pesticide dealers. Most of the state's flaxseed is grown in Northeastern Montana in Sheridan, Daniels and Valley counties.
An important feature of the registration is that approximately 80 percent of the crop must be physiologically mature and turning color before the herbicide can be applied, according to Amy Bamber, Pesticide Registrations Program manager for the department.
The special local needs label must be in the possession of users at the time of herbicide application. For more information about the Section 24(c) label and use restrictions, contact a pesticide retailer or call Amy Bamber (406) 444-5400 or by e-mail at agr@mt.gov.
