Agriculture Department Seeking Weed, Pest Interns
HELENA, Mont. — general knowledge of Montana agriculture.
Weed interns will require knowledge of noxious weed
identification and weed management techniques. The
pest survey intern will need knowledge of insects,
insect biology, ecology and identification.
All three positions require oral and written communications
skills and the ability to work cooperatively with
others including government agency personnel and
private landowners.
The pest survey intern, based in Missoula, will
assist with the department's statewide Cooperative
Agricultural Pest Survey program. Duties include
trapping, monitoring and surveying for pests such
as cereal leaf beetle, gypsy moth, Japanese beetle
and other exotic insect pests, as well as work with
biological control efforts.
A Noxious Weed Seed Free Forage program intern will attend county fairs, set up and staff a booth and provide public information. A fishing access intern will assist with weed monitoring and reporting on access sites throughout the state.
Successful applicant also must possess a valid Montana driver's license. The pest survey intern also must have familiarity with Global Positioning System mapping to locate insect trap sites.
