Crisis Exemption Allows Warrior Use in Barley
HELENA, Mont. — The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has approved an emergency exemption allowing the use of Warrior insecticide to control army and pale western cutworms, cereal leaf beetles and Russian wheat aphids in barley.
The uses were sought by the Montana Department of Agriculture at the request of the Montana Grain Growers Association. Syngenta, the registrant of Warrior, has issued an emergency exemption label, which is available on the Montana Department of Agriculture and Syngenta websites and through area pesticide dealers.
Use of Warrior to control army and pale western cutworms, Russian wheat aphids and cereal leaf beetles can begin April 1 and must end by July 30, under the EPA emergency exemption label.
Warrior with Zeon Technology, which contains the active ingredient lambda-cyhalothrin, is manufactured by Syngenta Crop Protection. Pesticide applicators are required to follow all use directions and label restrictions on the Section 18 emergency exemption label and on the federal label.
For additional information about these Section 18 labels, contact Dan Sullivan
