Celebrate National Food Day and Farm to School Month by eating local apples

Helena, Mont. – The Montana Department of Agriculture and Montana Office of Public Instruction are joining schools, community partners, and individuals across Montana in celebrating Food Day and National Farm to School Month by crunching into locally-grown apples on Tuesday, October 24th at 2:30 p.m. for Montana Crunch Time.

Helena area students, teachers, and any other interested parties in the area are invited to participate in the Crunch at Helena Middle School. Montana Department of Agriculture Director Ben Thomas will lead the Crunch Countdown, and remarks will be made by Montana Farm to School Coordinator Aubree Roth and staff from Helena Middle School.

This collective crunch encourages healthy eating and supports farm to school programs, healthy food access for students, and Buy Local initiatives throughout Montana. For more information, or to crunch with us, please contact Steph Hystad at shystad@mt.gov or 406-444-5425.

The Office of Public Instruction, Montana Team Nutrition Program, Montana State University, National Center for Appropriate Technology, Alternative Energy Resources Organization, Montana No Kid Hungry, Eat Right Montana, Montana Department of Agriculture, National Farm to School Network, Montana FoodCorps, and other statewide partners have created a guide to help every Montana child crunch into an apple this October.
