Southwest Center Joins Food & Ag Development Network

HELENA, Mont. — Butte-based Headwaters Resource Conservation and Development has joined Montana’s statewide network of food and agricultural development centers administered by the Montana Department of Agriculture.

The network of centers was created in 2009 by the Montana Legislature to support Montanans' pursuit of opportunities created by strong trends in local and regional food business and market development, and in agriculture-based renewable energy.

"Headwaters is a great addition to the network with its strong track record of supporting area residents, government and others in expanding economic opportunities in southwestern Montana," said Agriculture Director Ron de Yong.

The four regional centers in the Food and Agricultural Development Network offer entrepreneurs assistance with food and renewable energy projects including product development, testing, production, labeling, regulatory compliance and marketing. The centers assist value-added agricultural businesses gain needed capital through access to loans, loan guarantees, grants and business investments.

Headwaters RC&D serves southwestern Montana, with a full-time office in Butte and a part-time office in Dillon. The network's three other regional centers are based in Havre at Bear Paw Development Corporation; in Joliet at Beartooth RC&D, and in Ronan at Lake County Community Development’s Mission Mountain Food Enterprise Center.

"Services that fall within the network's purpose are provided to any Montanan regardless of where in the state they are located," said de Yong. "The centers offer varied and specialized services to help entrepreneurs with diverse business and marketing objectives."
